It’s no secret that junior receiver Corey Robinson has plenty of interests in addition to football, and now one of those will be serving as Notre Dame student body president.

Robinson won an election of his peers that also included two other tickets on which to vote, according to The Observer, the student newspaper at Notre Dame. The Observer reported that the school’s judicial council would release ballot totals in the morning, but that there would not be a runoff because Robinson received at least 50 percent of the total vote.

Robinson, in a January interview with The Observer, said he would participate in his senior season of football if elected.

“In the fall, we practice to 2:30 to 7, so anything between those hours, I can’t participate in, but the rest of the day, I’m free,” he said. “I’m going to have three or four classes … and the way my schedule works, only football and student body, so that way, I’ll be able to be fully invested in both, in those two aspects.”

Robinson, a 2013 early enrollee and major in the Program of Liberal Studies with a sustainability minor, has been very involved in student government throughout his time at Notre Dame.

Coincidentally, freshman defensive lineman Jerry Tillery served as the campaign manager of another ticket hoping to gain election.

On Jan. 29, Robinson penned a column for Sports Illustrated about his One Shirt One Body initiative, which donates athletic apparel to local communities.

“The idea started by accident last May,” Robinson wrote. “My Notre Dame football teammate Cole Luke had some extra Under Armour cleats and didn't know what to do with them. So his roommate, Andrew Helmin, offered to take them back home to Frankfort, Ill., and give them to the kids in the neighborhood. Not surprisingly, the kids were overwhelmed with excitement at the chance to wear the game-used cleats of one of Notre Dame's starting cornerbacks.

“Like a sudden light illuminating a dark room, an idea emerged. What if more student-athletes gave their extra gear and clothing to those in need?”

According to Robinson, One Shirt One Body has donated approximately 3,000 shirts since November.
