Irish In The NFL: Super Bowl

Protecting the blind side of quarterback Peyton Manning, left tackle Ryan Harris helped the Denver Broncos win Super Bowl 50.
Protecting the blind side of quarterback Peyton Manning, left tackle Ryan Harris helped the Denver Broncos win Super Bowl 50.

Left tackle Ryan Harris and safety David Bruton added their names to the list of former Irish players that have participated on Super Bowl winning squads with the Denver Broncos’ 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday.

Had the Panthers been victorious, long snapper J.J. Jansen would have represented Notre Dame on the championship squad.

Bruton did not play in the Super Bowl due to a broken fibula suffered late in the regular season. He recorded 49 tackles, seven pass deflections, two interceptions and two forced fumbles in 13 games (three starts) as a defensive back and special teams standout.

Harris has started every game this season for Denver after the organization signed him during the offseason.

Harris and Bruton became the 42nd and 43rd former Irish players to earn a Super Bowl ring.
