Notre Dame Commit Kurt Hinish Wins DL MVP At The Opening Columbus

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Notre Dame defensive line commit Kurt Hinish made a case that he's one of the nation's top defensive tackle prospects at The Opening Columbus on Saturday. Hinish took home DL MVP honors at the camp after a strong performance against some of the Midwest's top offensive linemen.

Hinish, who committed to the Irish back in March, split reps with three-star offensive guard Jordan Reid and then fared well agains the rest of the linemen on hand. The Pittsburgh Central Catholic three-star tackle said he was disappointed that he didn't earn a golden ticket to The Opening at Nike's World Headquarters in Oregon, but he still thought he performed well in a competitive setting.

"It feels pretty good knowing that I'm the best defensive lineman out here. I'm a little upset that I didn't get the invite, but we'll see what happens down the line. It just feels good honestly to know that you're the best defensive lineman out here," Hinish said.

Hinish picked Notre Dame over his other finalists: Penn State and Pittsburgh. He says that other schools have passed through Central Catholic during the spring evaluation period, but explained that he's more than solid on his pledge to the Irish and defensive line coach Keith Gilmore.

The 6-3, 283-pound Hinish is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 32 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 9 prospect in Pennsylvania.
