Irish Earn No. 6 Seed, Will Face Michigan Or Tulsa In The NCAA Tournament

Notre Dame’s quest to advance in its second consecutive NCAA Tournament will go through Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Irish drew a No. 6 seed in the postseason event, and will face the winner of a play-in game between No. 11 seeds Michigan and Tulsa in the first round March 18 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Wolverines finished 22-12 overall and 10-8 in Big Ten play. They fell 76-59 to Purdue in the Big Ten semifinals on Saturday.

The Golden Hurricanes posted a 20-11 overall mark and were 12-6 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

In the other matchup in Notre Dame’s Brooklyn pod is No. 3 seed West Virginia and No. 14 seed Stephen F. Austin.

The third-seeded Mountaineers notched a 26-8 overall record and finished second in the Big 12 with a 13-5 mark. The 14th-seeded Lumberjacks compiled a 27-5 record.

Should the Irish advance to the Sweet 16, they’d move forward to face the winner from the bracket of No. 2-seeded Xavier, No. 7-seeded Wisconsin, No. 10-seeded Pittsburgh and No. 15-seeded Weber State.

Mike Brey’s squad finished fifth in regular season play in the 15-team ACC with an 11-7 record, winning a tiebreaker with Duke by taking the head-to-head matchup 95-91 on Jan. 16. They also beat the Blue Devils 84-79 in overtime in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals before falling 78-47 to top-seeded North Carolina in the semifinals.
