Notre Dame has made its initial move of the April evaluation period.

Westtown (Pa.) School junior Brandon Randolph added an offer from the Irish following the April 15-17 evaluation weekend, making him the first new scholarship extended by the staff during the open period.

Coaches can be on the road April 15-17 and April 22-24 to evaluate prospects in non-scholastic games like AAU events. The Irish staff spread out over the first weekend, with head coach Mike Brey and assistant Martin Ingelsby in New York City — where Randolph played — for the Nike and Under Armour circuit games, and assistant Anthony Solomon in Dallas for the adidas circuit.

The 6-5, 165-pound Randolph is rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 73 overall player nationally by Rivals.com.

“A skinny two guard who can fill it via the jumper, Randolph reminds us a lot of current UNLV standout Patrick McCaw,” Rivals national analyst Eric Bossi wrote on March 2. “He can run some offense, but is most comfortable as a scorer who can also help out on the glass.

“If anything, we’re thinking his entrance at No. 73 may have been a bit on the conservative side.”

He averaged 11.0 points per game on 10-of-19 shooting (52.6 percent) over three contests in NYC for ProScholars Athletics, including making 8 of 16 three-point tries.

Ingelsby followed up the offer by checking in on Randolph April 20 during his workout with Westtown School.

“Brandon’s been with PSA since the sixth grade,” PSA coach Terrance Williams told TarHeelIllustrated in April. “As a sophomore, he was 6-4 and broke his leg so he had to miss the whole season.

“Then as a junior he was at 6-6 and healthy, so he could show what he could do. That’s why his recruitment started slow, but now he plays with a chip on his shoulder because he feels like he has something to prove.

“He’s one of the best shooters on the East Coast. He can finish above the rim and is a born scorer. The sky is the limit for Brandon because all he does is go to the gym and work. Right now, we’re just working on his passing and continuing to be able to score at all three levels (inside, mid-range and three-point range).”

It’s also worth nothing that Randolph already has a connection to the Irish program. The junior guard is cousins with Notre Dame signee Temple Gibbs Jr., according to the latter’s father, Temple Gibbs Sr.

Kansas, Syracuse and UConn are among Randolph’s other recent offers.
