Well, that didn't take long.

After news broke Tuesday that now former assistant coaches Martin Ingelsby (head coach at Delaware) and Anthony Solomon (assistant at Georgetown) were leaving Notre Dame for new positions, Irish head coach Mike Brey has reportedly already chosen his first new assistant.

According to a tweet from Campus Insiders' Jordan Cornette, former Irish star Ryan Humphrey has been hired for one of the openings.

In a followup tweet, Cornette noted that the second opening could be filled by either Harold Swanagan, Ryan Ayers or Chris Quinn among others.

Humphrey was a first round pick (No. 19 overall) by the Utah Jazz in the 2002 NBA Draft after a successful two-year playing stint with the Irish. He sat out his junior season at Notre Dame due to NCAA transfer rules, and played his sophomore and freshman seasons at Oklahoma.

He was named a captain as a fifth-year player alongside David Graves and Swanagan in 2001-02, and averaged 18.9 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game that season.

Humphrey was traded from the Jazz to the Orlando Magic on draft day, and lasted in the league through the 2004-05 season, when his playing career shifted largely to various overseas teams.

He's served as Director of Player Development at Northwestern since Nov. 2014.

In meeting with the media Wednesday, Brey had said he'd like to have had his first hire made by the time the players return on June 13.

"Four or five guys in the pool," said Brey, of who he was eyeing for the positions. "You know the suspects.

"I'm excited about what I can do with my staff. This staff that we had, we maxed it out together. It was time for change on both sides of the coin.

"It was an unbelievable ride, but I think reinvention is great for me. I will certainly start with my former players who are very qualified. But I'm not locked into that either, and I'm not going to rush.

“The ones you’re thinking about were all captains. They all led. I really need my leaders to deliver the message. Those guys have all been in leadership positions. My captains are almost like assistant coaches, and you've seen that over the years.”

Swanagan has served as Notre Dame's coordinator of basketball operations since July 2009.

Ayers completed his second season as an assistant with Bucknell in 2015-16, and was named a Notre Dame team captain in 2008-09.

Quinn graduated from Notre Dame in 2006 and was named a two-time team captain. He's served as an assistant coach for the Miami Heat since Sept. 2014.
