Make it commit No. 5 for Notre Dame from the huge Junior Day weekend.

Indianapolis Cathedral four-star linebacker Pete Werner gave a verbal commitment to the Irish on Monday just two days after he was in South Bend for the first time with his parents.

Werner, who is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 19 outside linebacker in the country, picked up an offer from the Irish Feb. 17. At the time, he told Blue & Gold Illustrated that Stanford was going to be difficult to beat down the stretch if an offer came his way, but Notre Dame and recruiting coordinator Mike Elston were able to lock up Werner before the Pac-12 school was able to get really involved.

“I think Coach Elston is a great guy,” Werner said last month. “I think I could play for him.”

Werner joins Rivals100 prospect David Adams and two-star recruit Drew White as new linebacker commits that were on campus for the Junior Day.

The 6-3, 210-pound Werner is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 3 prospect in Indiana for the class of 2017. He also held offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Duke, Northwestern, Boston College and Wisconsin. Werner’s father, Greg, had a brief stint in the NFL, and his brother is currently a tight end at Harvard. He was scheduled to visit Ohio State this week, but that trip isn’t expected to happen with him now pledged to Notre Dame.
