Three-Star Quarterback Avery Davis Commits To Notre Dame

Notre Dame has found its next quarterback.

Cedar Hill (Texas) High three-star quarterback Avery Davis gave a verbal commitment to the Irish while in town for an unofficial visit. Davis, who is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 14 dual-threat quarterback in the country, has long been a target for Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Sanford. He visited campus for the Wake Forest game this past season and then returned this weekend for the program’s second Junior Day of the cycle.

“It was kind of surreal being there,” Davis said. “The school was beautiful and so were the athletic facilities.”

Davis picked Notre Dame over offers from Utah, Colorado, Virginia, Kansas State, Iowa State, Houston and Purdue.

While he is ranked as just a three-star prospect, he is regarded as one of the nation’s top dual-threat options after throwing for 1,966 yards and 22 touchdowns plus running for 934 yards this past season. He guided a Cedar Hill squad that went 9-2 in one of talent-rich Texas’ highest classifications.

“He’s a winner,” Cedar Hill head coach Joey McGuire said.

Davis becomes commit No. 5 for Notre Dame in the class. His pledge comes just a few days after Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley three-star quarterback Hendon Hooker visited campus. While there were talks of the Irish potentially taking two quarterbacks in the class, Blue & Gold Illustrated believes that Notre Dame is done recruiting the position with Davis now in the fold.

The 5-11, 188-pound Davis is listed as the No. 50 prospect in the Lone Star State. He split time his sophomore season at Cedar Hill with LSU freshman quarterback Justin McMillan.
